Many people that are going through infertility may feel the need to isolate themselves.  It is difficult when everyone around you seems to get pregnant without even trying.

Sometimes we don’t even realize that we are closing ourselves off from other people.

Remember its okay to set some boundaries for yourself.  You may not feel ready for the baby shower or to spending the day with your friend’s newborn may be more than you can handle.

Know that that is okay.  You don’t need to push yourself to do things, that will please other people.  When you prioritize self care, its like exercising a muscle you start to get better and stronger at recognizing when you need it.

However, some people that are experiencing infertility may have been struggling with depression and anxiety long before they starting to try to have children.

Surprisingly, this could be an indicator as to why you are unable to conceive.

It may be linked to a leaky gut.

What exactly is a leaky gut?

When someone has leaky gut (often referred to as intestinal permeability), the mucosal lining in your digestive tract is damaged or inflamed, which causes even bigger holes to develop in your net, so things that normally can’t pass through, are now be able to.

Some of the things that can now pass through include proteins like gluten, bad bacteria and undigested foods particles. Toxic waste can also leak from the inside of your intestinal wall into your bloodstream causing an immune reaction.

Your gut wall then becomes leaky, toxins and undigested food particles easily get into the body. Next our immune system kicks into high gear and attacks these foreign invaders.  When this happens repeatedly it increases inflammation in the gut, which causes more damage.  It becomes a vicious cycle that can keep your symptoms such as infertility going strong unless the root cause of the leaky gut is removed. With diet changes and nutritional therapies for a targeted amount of time, the health of the gut and body can be restored.

Leaky gut can be linked to the following:

Digestive Problems: constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux

Mood Problems: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, ADHD

Skin Problems:  acne, eczema, psoriasis.

Joint Problems:  joint pain, muscle pain or arthritis

Autoimmune Disease:  Multiple Sclerosis, Type I Diabetes, Celiac Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto’s or Lupus.

These complaints and many more can be linked to your inability to have a baby.

When you eliminate the top allergens, (dairy, corn, gluten, soy, peanuts, eggs) for just 10 days and then re-introduce them you get to feel how food affects you physically and mentally.

Many of my clients are surprised to feel their brain fog lift, their anxiety and depression lessen and their moods become more stable.

Incorporating some deep breathing techniques, daily meditation (even 5 minutes per day) can be beneficial, and will help to improve moods.

Essential oils such as lavender, frankincense, wild orange are good to help calm the mind and offer a sense of peace.  Adding 2-3 drops of oil to a diffuser or applying to pulse points such as neck, temples and wrists, or even applying to bottom of the feet is recommended.

When you feel depressed or anxious know that it is important to seek help and support  Talking about your emotions with a trusted friend, coach or therapist will help to work through the pain and discomfort.

Many of us stuff these emotions inside and find that we are no longer able to cope as we feel too overwhelmed.

Reaching out for support is the first step.  Committing to an elimination diet is the next step.
